Things you should know before signing a contract with a boudoir photographer

Wisconsin Women's Photographer

Our policy at JLReis Photography is that every clients feels beautiful, sexy and SAFE. If you prefer that your photos aren’t shared with anyone but you … we get that. We’ll discuss the details during our pre-session consult but the bottom line is that your privacy is our TOP PRIORITY. No photograph is ever shared without your WRITTEN CONSENT

Of course we have clients who love their images so much that they are proud and excited to share them, we also have in-studio models who work with us on a regular basis and they allow us to use their photos in our private group, on our business Facebook page and here, on the blog because showing what we do is important.

Wisconsin Women's Photographer

If you WANT to share your images we give the option of anonymous images that keep your face private and focus on different areas of your body which aren’t recognizable.

Additionally, your images are never uploaded to our private gallery website without your written permission. If you prefer “in person” viewing of your images, we’ll view your photographs and products “In Person” either at my home or your home either at your home or in-studio. Your images are saved on MY private hard drive for one year, in case you would like to order more.

Your print products are sent privately and securely to my professional printing lab. I’ve worked with them for over five years and I trust them implicitly; they work with the best boudoir photographers around the world, so your portraits are in great hands!

Wisconsin Women's Photographer

When your session is finished, we want you to feel on top of the world, like the goddess we KNOW you are. When you work with us you get an experience that you can’t get with a cellphone and some free filters … you get an experience that leaves you with images that show you as perfectly, imperfectly, uniquely beautiful as you REALLY ARE!

Ms P’s Interview

JLReis Boudoir Photography

I like to know what our clients thought about their session, so I send them a short list of questions a couple of weeks after. MsP was sweet enough to share her thought with us. One of my favorite answers when asked what was her favorite part of the session was when she said, “Getting to know Jackee and Pru was the best part, they absolutely make you feel comfortable and accepted.”

Have you ever done a boudoir shoot before?
Yes, I did a shoot 20 plus years ago.

If so, how does your shoot with Jackee compare to your prior experiences?
Jackee was by far much more fun and put me completely at ease.

Why did you do your boudoir shoot?
I wanted to feel beautiful and sexy! I needed validation.

What was your favorite part of the session?
Working with Jackie and Pru! They gave me so much positive vibes and made me feel 100 percent beautiful!

What did doing this shoot do for your self-confidence, self-worth, and self-image? Tell me your story.
I have always battled with weight issues, self esteem issues, self hate and by doing this shoot and seeing the photos it gave me so much more confidence and helped me see myself in a different light. The weight issue will always be there but learning to accept myself as I am what something that I am starting to do a little at a time!

Was your experience what you were expecting? If not, how was it different?
I expected to change outfits more and be more rushed, that wasn’t the case at all, everything flowed well and I didn’t feel rushed at all.

What was the best part of your experience? Would you change anything?
Getting to know Jackee and Pru was the best part, they absolutely make you feel comfortable and accepted.

Would you recommend us to a friend?
Yes, I would recommend you to a friend or two, I have a couple names in mind of women that are like age as me and would love a photo shoot

One a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your portrait session with JLReis Photography – 1 being awful – 10 being most awesome!
10 for sure!!!!

How nervous were you prior to your portrait session? Tell us how that changed as your session progressed.
As I was driving there, I kept thinking of just not going, my daughter was on the phone and keep urging me to just do it! So many leap of faith and I was there! Once it started it was just so much fun I forgot to be nervous.

Was there anything Jackee & Pru could have done better to help with your nervousness?
Perhaps a shot of whiskey or glass of wine when I walked in the door..

Has this portrait experience changed you? Would you want to do it again?
I feel beautiful and like I have an amazing secret, I haven’t shared with near anyone yet! I absolutely can’t wIt to do it again!!!

Has this portrait session done anything for your confidence level?
It has boosted my confidence level so much, I still have a long way to go but this experience has helped so much.

” Ooh, Jackie Blue, You’re Goin’ Again”

” Ooh, Jackie Blue, You’re Goin’ Again”

Why Do I Shoot ONLY Women?

I’ve never been pretty, not in a conventional way. My mother was a stone cold stunner and my kid is beautiful. I don’t think I’ve ever been much in the looks department, though, I think my personality and attitude made people think I was a lot more attractive than I really am.

Sometimes though, I look at old photos and I can see that I WAS pretty, at least once in a while. The thing is, I don’t have a lot of old photos of myself, usually because I was the one holding the camera. I didn’t know back then that I would wish for photos of myself in the future, on days that I look like a hot mess, to remind me of what I can look like.

I kinda got into this whole “women only” photography by a lucky mistake, I did a favor for someone and fell into something that I’ve been obsessed with for the past six years. My photography isn’t about “empowerment”, not really. It’s more about gifting someone else something I wish I had. It’s seeing a feeling that I have felt on somebody else’s face.

I spend every.damn.day working to make my craft better so that I can capture as many women as possible in my lens and make them ask “Is that ME??” No one can spend every day talking themselves up. After a while those fucking memes on Facebook promoting body positivity and self-love become just so many pretty pictures and flowery words that we don’t even READ before we hit “Share”. I try to do for other women what I can’t seem to do for my own self: SHOW them that they ARE as hot as they wish they were.

I wish I could say that I do this ONLY for other women, but the TRUTH is that I do it for ME, mostly. I can’t put into words how I feel when someone looks at their photos and their eyes fill up with tears. There are women that will tell you I act like a fool when I turn over their albums or prints, making jokes and talking to much and stuttering over my words. They’ve seen me do it, but they don’t know WHY I do it.

I do it for the same reason I am ALWAYS acting like a fool: because if I don’t, I’m afraid people will see how I’m REALLY feeling. I’m afraid I’ll start crying because I am overwhelmed and so fucking THANKFUL that I gave someone I gift I can’t give myself.

So many women look at themselves in the mirror and tell themselves they are ugly, they are fat, they are stupid and they don’t deserve anything for themselves.

I am that person who is going to tap you on the back of the head and say BULLSHIT.

If I could do this for free, I would, but the reality is that I can’t. But I can do everything I possibly can to make sure every woman has the chance to have proof of their beauty that they can look at ANY TIME and KNOW that they are beautiful.

Just Because

Green Bay Boudoir

Sometimes you do something “just because”. This past Friday, Pru and I decided to do a shoot because it was a gorgeous night, because we hadn’t spent any time together lately, just because we need time for ourselves.

Not only is Prudence an experienced HMUA extraordinaire, with an up and coming salon in Seymour, WI, she’s also my dear friend, one of my biggest cheerleaders and has the biggest heart EVER.

When I’m feeling overwhelmed or down on myself, she’s always there to kick me in the ass and get me back on track. I am lucky and blessed to have her in my corner.

Shannon – Testimonial

Green Bay Initmate Photography
What was your biggest fear before hiring us?
My biggest fear was mere thought about exposing my body to complete strangers- when I don’t even feel comfortable exposing my body to people I know, and should be comfortable around. I was also nervous my photos would never turn out like the ones I’ve seen other women do. & was nervous about the potential of embarrassing pictures of me and my body would be available for the public- to judge.

Did it come true, and if not, what happened instead?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. I left my photoshoot that day, without even knowing how my pictures turned out- already feeling more beautiful and confident than ever. Jackee and Pru made me feel like a movie star, and helped me boost my self confidence and never for a second did I feel “embarrassed” around them, or uncomfortable in ANY way. My bare naked ass was out and I never felt uncomfortable about it. I got my photos and was simply AMAZED at how they turned out. It was like finally seeing myself through someone else’s eyes.

Were you nervous about your shoot? How did Jackee help?
Jackee made me feel confident and answered all of my questions and emails before our shoot. So I knew exactly what to expect.

How did you feel after you saw your photos for the first time?
It was like seeing myself through someone else’s eyes. People throw out complements like parsley sometimes. And it never really matters how many times someone tell you, you are beautiful. Because those are just “words” unless you truly feel that way and believe it yourself. After seeing my photos it was like, looking at myself through the perspective of someone who loves me, for me just the way I am. And FINALLY- I am THAT person. Loving my damn self.

What, specifically, was your favorite part of your boudoir experience and why?
Just having fun, the laughs, the easy feeling of no “expectations” and just being able to be myself.

Did you enjoy working with Jackee and Pru?
YES! I have another shoot booked already!

What advice would you give to other women thinking about having a boudoir session?
DO IT! I promise you will leave feeling like a super model. And once you see your pictures, you’ll be amazed at how beautiful your body truly is.

If you were to recommend me to your best friend, what would you say?
Let’s do a shoot together and pretend we’re lesbian lovers 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ you deserve to do something for YOU! And I promise you won’t be disappointed. 💕

Empowerment – You Ain’t the Boss of Me

Empowered

Empowerment. You know what empowers me, Jessica? Thinking for myself and not letting others tell me what should or shouldn’t make me feel like I’m in control of my life.

I read a blog post today from a woman who broke nearly every rule of the idea of “empowerment”. She told women that they are aren’t empowered by choosing to purchase pink tool-sets; it doesn’t boost our confidence to learn how to apply makeup. Self defense classes are useless because they don’t STOP men from attacking women. WTF?

This woman is a psychologist who works with sexual assault victims! What kind of message is she giving these women? They’ve been assaulted by a man and now a WOMAN is shaming them for buying and doing things that make them feel good. Just because you have the same equipment as me doesn’t mean you GET me.

Being empowered means choosing to do what YOU want to do, whether it’s taking a pole dancing class for fitness or NOT wearing makeup. I am OVER other women telling me what I should do. I am over other women feeling uncomfortable with something then trying to make other women feel the same.

STOP IT!

Women are not ignorant for wanting pretty things. Women are not being oppressed because they enjoy wearing make-up or learning a sexy dance move. The difference between being objectified and feeling in charge of your own life: one is forced on you and one is a choice. Learn the difference, Jessica.

Selfies Are HARD, Y’all

Green Bay Boudoir | Appleton Boudoir
Boudoir selfie or professional photographer? Gah … I can shoot my clients, but taking my own photos, even with a professional camera and the knowledge I have is really fucking HARD. After yesterday I think I’m gonna do some searching and find a local photographer to do mine.

My job – my passion – is taking photos that allow women to look at themselves and love what they see, whether they’re taking the photos for someone they love or for themselves. Taking selfies is an exercise in PAIN… I am not kidding, my back is killing me from trying pose and hit the shutter at the same time. I warn my clients all the time that they’re gonna be sore and it’s true!

I’ll tell you what HAS happened since I started taking my own photos: I am accepting myself and my body. People, I am nearly 60 YEARS OLD!!!! That fact slaps me in the face on a regular basis and you know what? SO WHAT?

I’m becoming more confident in this mom-bod and my lived in face. Sometimes I see my own mom in my face. Sometimes I see my face in my daughter. This is me and if I don’t get good with what I have now, at the age of 57, when will I?

I’ve lost some weight recently, not on purpose, but I still have the wrinkles and the cellulite and that damn belly roll in the front and I’m okay with it. I really think a lot of it has to do with boudoir photography. I see my clients come in and toss off their clothes, trust me to make them look good and I KNOW I’m good too!

So yesterday I curled my hair with a flat iron because it was too freaking cold to go out to the studio more than once, watched a make-up video on YouTube, threw all my gear into a bag and went out to the studio.

Birthday Girl

Green Bay Birthday Boudoir

When my husband and I were rolling down the highway 30 years ago at 5am on our way to the hospital it never occurred to me that I’d someday be taking 30th birthday photos of the beautiful young woman that was my daughter.

Thirty years of love, laughter and joy. This kid is everything and more that I envisioned thirty years ago and I thank God for her every day.
