Ms P’s Interview

JLReis Boudoir Photography

I like to know what our clients thought about their session, so I send them a short list of questions a couple of weeks after. MsP was sweet enough to share her thought with us. One of my favorite answers when asked what was her favorite part of the session was when she said, “Getting to know Jackee and Pru was the best part, they absolutely make you feel comfortable and accepted.”

Have you ever done a boudoir shoot before?
Yes, I did a shoot 20 plus years ago.

If so, how does your shoot with Jackee compare to your prior experiences?
Jackee was by far much more fun and put me completely at ease.

Why did you do your boudoir shoot?
I wanted to feel beautiful and sexy! I needed validation.

What was your favorite part of the session?
Working with Jackie and Pru! They gave me so much positive vibes and made me feel 100 percent beautiful!

What did doing this shoot do for your self-confidence, self-worth, and self-image? Tell me your story.
I have always battled with weight issues, self esteem issues, self hate and by doing this shoot and seeing the photos it gave me so much more confidence and helped me see myself in a different light. The weight issue will always be there but learning to accept myself as I am what something that I am starting to do a little at a time!

Was your experience what you were expecting? If not, how was it different?
I expected to change outfits more and be more rushed, that wasn’t the case at all, everything flowed well and I didn’t feel rushed at all.

What was the best part of your experience? Would you change anything?
Getting to know Jackee and Pru was the best part, they absolutely make you feel comfortable and accepted.

Would you recommend us to a friend?
Yes, I would recommend you to a friend or two, I have a couple names in mind of women that are like age as me and would love a photo shoot

One a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your portrait session with JLReis Photography – 1 being awful – 10 being most awesome!
10 for sure!!!!

How nervous were you prior to your portrait session? Tell us how that changed as your session progressed.
As I was driving there, I kept thinking of just not going, my daughter was on the phone and keep urging me to just do it! So many leap of faith and I was there! Once it started it was just so much fun I forgot to be nervous.

Was there anything Jackee & Pru could have done better to help with your nervousness?
Perhaps a shot of whiskey or glass of wine when I walked in the door..

Has this portrait experience changed you? Would you want to do it again?
I feel beautiful and like I have an amazing secret, I haven’t shared with near anyone yet! I absolutely can’t wIt to do it again!!!

Has this portrait session done anything for your confidence level?
It has boosted my confidence level so much, I still have a long way to go but this experience has helped so much.

Prepare for Your Boudoir Photo Shoot

Appleton Boudoir Photography

Valentine’s Day is coming up, beauties. If you’re thinking of having your photos done for that special someone I’ve got some tips and tricks for you so you’ll be ready for your big day. If you start getting ready at least two weeks before your session, you’ll be more than ready when the shutter clicks.

SKIN – My biggest tip for skin, especially during the winter, but basically all year round, is to invest in a jar of coconut oil. Bring it home, heat it up in the microwave, then funnel it into a small squeeze bottle and put it in your shower. When you get in the shower, put that bottle near the drain so that the coconut oil melts again and before you get out of the shower, after you’ve washed, conditioned and shaved, rub it all over your wet body and massage it in. Coconut oil is amazing and can be used for so many things (make-up remover and frying hamburgers to name just a few) but it’s the perfect skin moisturizer. Check your current body lotion. The first ingredient is WATER. What does water do when it sits on a surface? It evaporates. If that surface is your skin, it evaporates and takes all the moisture with it. Hello sandpaper skin!

I’m not gonna tell you not to tan, we all look good with a little golden glow. Just don’t overdo it, girl! And don’t do it right before your session. Buy a small package a week or two before your session so you have just the tiniest bit of color.

Stay the hell away from spray tans and self tanners! I don’t care what they tell you, you look ORANGE. You will photograph ORANGE. And I will try to edit your photos and lose my mind. Say no to the oompa-loompa look and we’ll all be happy.

Appleton Boudoir Photography

DIET – In the week before your session drink a LOT of water and stay away from anything you know makes you bloaty.

EXERCISE – Wait, what? Calm down, I’m not suggesting you run out and sign up for a Zumba class. I’m just saying you’re gonna need to limber up before your session. Pru and I put you in to some interesting positions, so stretching the 2-3 days before your session would be smart.

Appleton Boudoir Photography

HAIR/MAKEUP – I can’t emphasize enough the importance of having your hair and makeup done professionally. Our HMUA, Prudence is amazing. She not only has years of experience behind the chair, she gets you rolling and loosens you up before you step in front of the camera. She’s our very own Instigator of Underwear

Appleton Boudoir Photography

WARDROBE – Wear something loose the day of your session. No bra, no socks and nothing that goes on or comes off over your head.
We will discuss your session wardrobe before the day of your shoot, but I want you to wear what makes you feel comfortable and sexy. If you buy something new for the session wear it a few times before you come in. Lay down, roll around in it. Stretch (there’s that damn exercise again!) and bend. If you don’t feel comfortable in your outfits it will come across in your photos. We don’t want that.

Appleton Boudoir Photography

SHOES – I suggest you bring HOT shoes. I don’t mean those shoes you bought for your cousin’s wedding or the nice pair you wear to church. For these kind of photos you need CFM pumps … stripper heels. You’re not gonna be walking in them, in fact we don’t allow that, but you’ll be wearing them to make your legs look AMAZING. Don’t have CFMs? That’s okay, I DO. And I have them in YOUR size. If I don’t, I’ll get them.

Appleton Boudoir Photography

PRACTICE – While we’re on the subject of looking amazing, practice “looking sexy”. Whoever you’re having these photos done for, whether it’s for yourself or a loved one, you want your images to have the WOW factor. So, if you’re not already, practice being comfortable with yourself. Run your hands up and down your body. Stretch and arch and run your fingers through your hair. Look in the mirror and lick your lips, throw yourself kisses, cross your eyes and throw your head back and laugh … do it til you get comfortable with it (which will never happen, doll, but now you know what we’re gonna be doing when you show up for your session).

Appleton Boudoir Photography

SLEEP – Go to bed early the night before your shoot and think sexy thoughts

FINALLY – Don’t do anything crazy in the days before your session. Don’t decide you’ll look better as a redhead. Or shave one side of your head. Or get a tattoo

Appleton Boudoir Photography

WE’RE GONNA HAVE FUN – Unless you PLAN on looking like Cinderella or Snow White, we’re going for SIZZLE. SMOKE. HOT. I can take the photo, but YOU gotta give me the goods. We don’t want a stiff Barbie doll in front in front of the camera and I know you don’t want to be stiff either.
I do this because I believe with all my heart that EVERY WOMAN IS BEAUTIFUL and that if they can SEE it, they’ll believe it. I want my clients to take out their photos and look at them and be reminded that the beautiful, confident HOT chick in those images is always with her.

So! If you’re thinking of having your photos taken, give yourself and US enough time. Time to pick your wardrobe, time to choose your favorites, time to edit your final images and time to create and order that special album or wall print.

Ready? We’re here to start walking you through every single minute.

Selfies Are HARD, Y’all

Green Bay Boudoir | Appleton Boudoir
Boudoir selfie or professional photographer? Gah … I can shoot my clients, but taking my own photos, even with a professional camera and the knowledge I have is really fucking HARD. After yesterday I think I’m gonna do some searching and find a local photographer to do mine.

My job – my passion – is taking photos that allow women to look at themselves and love what they see, whether they’re taking the photos for someone they love or for themselves. Taking selfies is an exercise in PAIN… I am not kidding, my back is killing me from trying pose and hit the shutter at the same time. I warn my clients all the time that they’re gonna be sore and it’s true!

I’ll tell you what HAS happened since I started taking my own photos: I am accepting myself and my body. People, I am nearly 60 YEARS OLD!!!! That fact slaps me in the face on a regular basis and you know what? SO WHAT?

I’m becoming more confident in this mom-bod and my lived in face. Sometimes I see my own mom in my face. Sometimes I see my face in my daughter. This is me and if I don’t get good with what I have now, at the age of 57, when will I?

I’ve lost some weight recently, not on purpose, but I still have the wrinkles and the cellulite and that damn belly roll in the front and I’m okay with it. I really think a lot of it has to do with boudoir photography. I see my clients come in and toss off their clothes, trust me to make them look good and I KNOW I’m good too!

So yesterday I curled my hair with a flat iron because it was too freaking cold to go out to the studio more than once, watched a make-up video on YouTube, threw all my gear into a bag and went out to the studio.

What to Wear Wednesday

Appleton Boudoir Photographer

Newest additions to the Boudie Closet!

Finding outfits for your boudoir session is half the fun but sometimes it is hard to know where to start! Keep in mind these simple tips and recommendations and you will look amazing!

My girls all ask “What should I wear for my boudoir session?” Read on, babies, I have the answer!

I have a pretty healthy Boudie Closet designed to fit girlies of ALL sizes. I am always adding to the Boudie Closet, my jewelry selection and of course, those hot CFM (censored) pumps.

Wisconsin Boudoir Studio

When we set up your session, you can take a look at what I have in-studio or order something to keep from my Boudie Catalogue (coming in January 2019)!

As with all things boudie, there is no one answer to any question. Things to think about:

  • You don’t HAVE to wear lingerie to have a hot photo session – if you don’t feel sexy in something, you won’t look sexy in it!
  • Bring black, white and nude panties in addition to your lingerie/wardrobe
  • Bringing shoes? Save the “safe” shoes for church or that business meeting. If you don’t have killer stilettos, I DO
  • Bring new or lightly worn lingerie (you don’t want those little balls or rips showing up in your images)
  • Try everything on BEFORE packing it in your bag

Every one of the ladies in this post hold a place near and dear to my heart. The very first (and a couple of the others) are my very best friend and one of the most beautiful women I know. Whenever her photos grace my blog or FB feed, they blow up with comments. The photo up top is the photo that started it all. MsP needed a photo for a calendar. We had a half an hour. I took one shot and this was the photo that went in the calendar. This photo led to the opportunity to work with a local business and shoot their calendar for the next four years. One of the ladies is a very talented make-up artist, another is my tattoo girl and one of them is a community minded business owner.

And I love every one of them.

So … do you (or your SO) have a bike that you want to include in your session? It’s pretty easy to do. Just ride it over and we’ll roll!

Perceptions – Who Are You?

Wisconsin Glamour Portraits

Perceptions are amazing. In this day and age of “politically correct” thinking and the public’s outcry of “I am NOT judgemental!” I’ve found that people in general are more judgemental and women are MOST judgemental of themselves.

This first full session with Studio Rep Emily got us talking about first impressions, other peoples’ opinions and how we judge ourselves.

On any given day other people see us as we are THAT day, whether we are dressed for work, dressed for gardening or dressed for a quick run to the gas station for a gallon of milk at six o’clock in the morning. Anyone who sees us bases an opinion on us, whether they know us or not. I tell myself that it doesn’t matter, people who know me know that I don’t always look that way, but REALLY? Somewhere inside me I think everyone is stink eyeing me. Do you do the same thing?

The saying that you never get a chance to make a first impression isn’t as true as what we’ve been lead to believe, at least in a personal way, and never judge a book by its over has never been more true. We can recreate ourselves EVERY day. We can put ourselves out to the world and tell our story a day at a time.

Perception of Glamour
When someone judges you, it isn’t about you. It’s about them and their own insecurities, limitations and needs

Wisconsin Modern Portraiture

Wisconsin Modern Portraits

What is modern portraiture? It’s a fancy name for personal photos that don’t look like they were taken at the mall, lol.

I’ve been missing in action, busy studying, working on the studio and taking photos. MODERN portraits. 😉

I’ve known Lisa for a couple of years, but didn’t realize how much we had in common till we got together for this session. I think we spent as much time laughing as we did taking photos.

We talked about the fact that we have so many photos of our kids, but so few photos of ourselves, unless you count the ones taken at Sears back when they were babies. We were too busy taking photos of them.

Now our kids are grown and having kids of their own. We’ve got pictures of our kids and our grandkids on the wall or on the mantle, but where are the photos of us?

Exist in Photos

We should all #existinphotos, we should all leave a moment in time for the people who love us.

This isn’t about taking it all off or glamming it all up (though it can be). It’s about looking at a photo of yourself and saying “Yes, I look great! I really DO!”

I want to create those photos for you. Come to my sweet little studio and let me show you how beautiful you are. Bring your three favorite outfits and we’ll talk and laugh and get some great shots. You don’t have to be skinny and you don’t have to “take good photos”. It’s my job to make you look great, and I WILL.

What are you waiting for? No better time than the present! Let’s get you on the calendar. Have questions? Call me at [920] 659-0614 or email beautiful@jlreisphotography.com
