Private Boudoir – I Protect Your Privacy

anonymous_wisconsin_boudoir

My daughter tells me that she’s never chosen a career because we told her that she could be anything she wanted when she grew up and she can’t make a decision. That’s a funny family story, but the truth is that at JLReisPhotography you CAN be anyone you want … and no one but you needs to know who you are! Who you are in private may be totally different than who you are in public and we can capture every side of you

How we, as a business in the business of photographing you at what is arguably your most vulnerable, keep you safe is important and we guarantee your privacy.

Many of our clients choose to keep their images TOTALLY private, to be seen only by themselves and their love. They don’t want their images online or on the walls or in albums in my studio. That is EVERY client’s choice. I don’t NEED to have my clients share their photos anywhere, I hire models and have studio reps for those times that I want to showcase a new set or a new technique. Every client can choose to show or not show her photos, no questions asked.

All clients are required to sign a contract before their session. But we don’t decide which of your images are shared (or not) until you’ve seen them and chosen your images. We’ll go over your contract and the area where you give permission for photos to be shown in detail and clients always have the option to choose not to share their photos.

Further, all galleries are shown in-person, in my studio. Your photos go from my camera to my work machine, to a jump drive, to my studio machine. This ensures that only you and I see your photos until you’ve made a decision. I do not share them online – not Facebook, not Messenger, not my blog. I will send you one “sneak” via email, but it will be one of the tamer shots.

JLReis Photography offers two specific sharing options. You give us permission to use only images where your face is not identifiable (body shots) or permission to use the images by saying yes or no to each image you’ve chosen. Again, if you decide not to show ANY – we’re okay with that.

But if you do decide to give us permission (and most clients do), we promise:

  • We never share images with nipples or genitals showing- period
  • We will never use your name unless you’ve given us permission
  • We change the filenames of your images, so there is nothing to point back to you
  • We don’t tag our clients on Facebook – ever. You are allowed to tag yourself if you wish

JLReis Photography also offers a sweet little thank you for those of you that DO choose to give full permission 😉

HMUA – Hair & Makeup Artist For Boudoir

Prudence Walker - HMUA - Green Bay, Appleton, Nichols, Seymour

HMUA? What the heck is that?

Prudence Walker WI HMUA boudoir
Prudence Walker – owner at Rustic Cuts & Co. Premiere hair and makeup artist at JLReis Glamoir Photography

Have you ever looked at a magazine and thought “God, I’d love to look like that!” You’re in luck, my HMUA – hair and makeup stylist – can make it happen.

While you can get away without it, a hair and makeup styling is a must for a boudoir session. You want to look your absolute most beautiful and HMUAs know all the tricks to make you look like yourself, with a ton of oomph. HMUAs do your hair, give you smoky eyes and thick fringe-y lashes and a silky, sexy pout. You’ll love what you see in the mirror and your SO will have their socks knocked off.

When I first met Prudence, I liked her immediately, but I had no idea just how important she’d become to me, professionally AND personally. She has brought my photography and my work to another whole level. Although I am a hairdresser myself, I concentrated on nails and was NEVER good at hair and make-up. Prudence has lifted the worries I had before and during a session.

Prudence is also opening a salon locally very soon, as well as being the premiere stylist at JLReis Photography, so we sat down and talked about some of the important questions that we thought y’all might want to know!

What made you want to get into the Hair and Makeup industry?
I LOVE all aspects of art; growing up, I was a very creative child. I grew up in a family of believers and listeners and givers. When one of my other goals in life was not going to work, my Uncle (HMUA), said to me “Why not give to the world what you were given?” … the ability to see beauty in others even if they didn’t see it themselves. So I combined my passion of art/design and compassion of helping others and went to school for barber/cosmetology. Later in life I went on to get my instructor’s license to help others achieve their HMUA goals as well.

What’s your favorite part about doing Hair and Makeup for Boudoir/Glamour Sessions?
The transformation of it all from the minute you walk through the door: the outfits, your expectations, your fears, your laughter, the moment you look in the mirror, when it all comes together and you strut out the door like you own it.

What can clients expect from you when they hire you to do their hair and makeup?
That they can trust me with everything, I listen …

How would you describe your style?
How would you describe me? 😉 Hmmm … “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak ~ Rachel Zoe” Okay, sometimes look like a hurricane â˜ș but I’m having a whole lot of fun

What makes you stand out in the HMUA industry?
I LISTEN, it’s not about me but you â˜ș

Where can you see hair and makeup trends go over the next few years
Everything repeats itself, but I can see simple and classic (it never goes out of style) But to each their own

What’s your favorite part of a Boudoir/Glamour Session?
All of it, but when the pictures come out and you and all of your friends and family go WOW! The glow in your face!

Other than Boudoir/Glamour Sessions, what else do you do hair and makeup for?
I love traveling for weddings! I’m the open minded stylist/ friend listening and helping you

What’s in your makeup bag?
A little of everything … remember, I’m just like you

What do you like to do on your weekends?
Now if I tell you everything about me what fun would that be 😉

Is there anything else that you want people to know about you?
I am here to help, even with the little things that you may have forgotten about yourself. Mixed in with some sass, class and maybe some crazy fun! But most importantly I LISTEN to what you need. I believe in kindness, I believe in helping others with no questions asked, I see the good in everyone first, I believe in good wholesome conversations. I believed in myself for 48 years when no one else did, beside a few close family and friends. I give my worth away to prove myself over and over again. I never accept a compliment cause its not about me it’s about helping. I believe I am smart enough to survive anything. That’s been my whole life and being.

 Client Feedback

The experience was great. She was amazing to work with and has a great personality. […] But seriously 9.5/10 ~ Amber C

I have loved working with Pru! I’ve gone from no makeup, to LOTS of makeup! […] As to hair, if anyone can take this wavy, curly rats nest and make it look fantastic, she does. That’s a brave and experienced person right there! ~ Emily P

She’s amazing she does great work I’m even having her do my hair and my daughter’s hair for my wedding vow renewal. She cut my son’s hair the other day amazing job he is very very happy with it. I would recommend her to anybody. ~ Becky M

Prudence Walker did my hair and I have a lot of hair to deal with I told her that I wanted blonde highlights and my hair layered and thinned […] lo and behold the finished product was completely amazing my head felt lighter, the style was amazing and I’ve never had more compliments on the color in my hair… I would highly recommend her to anybody […] ~ Lori K

She is Fantastic!! ~ Melissa V

Prudence Walker is amazing with hair…she moved away on me and i used to have the cutest short hair styles and colors but since she moved away i have let it grow because i cant find anyone to cut or color it the way she used to. ~ Vickie J

I absolutely love Pru!! SHE does amazing hair! I drive 2 hours just to get my hair done by Pru ~ Jennifer B

If you choose to do your own hair and make-up for your session:

  • Please arrive at the studio with your hair and makeup already done. We do have hairspray and curling irons if you need to fluff up the curls etc. We want to have enough time to pick out your outfits and more time to shoot ?
  • We highly recommend that you wear a foundation even if you don’t normally wear it; it really makes the skin look flawless and silky smooth in photographs. Please wear a moisturizer under your foundation
  • Bring some of your makeup with you so that you can touch it or a different color lipstick to change up the look for your second set
  • We recommend starting with a more nude or natural lipstick and then progressing to darker lipstick as we transition into your second or third set
  • False eyelashes are HIGHLY recommended for your shoot. If Pru isn’t doing your make-up, make sure you’ve applied them before you get here. You can buy nice lashes from WalMart or Sally’s – and don’t forget the glue! I personally recommend the tube withthe liner instead of “squooshy: glue 🙂

There are quite a few tutorials here in one place right here (I love the eyeshadow in the first video!)

Ashley Busalacchi’s Winter Chill Vendor Event

Winter Chill Vendor Event

Emily and drove down Oshkosh way on Saturday to attend Ashley Busalacchi’s Winter Chill Vendor Event. It’s been a minute since I’ve been to a vendor show and I’d almost forgotten how much fun they really can be. A group of women get together to network and share their products and services and after a few hours? They’ve all learned something about the others.

I was also reminded about how passionate women can be about the things they love. I learned how to make a new snack mix, I’m trying to get rid of the bags under my eyes (I don’t have a problem with wrinkles – thank God – but those black circles!), ate a brownie (or two) that tasted like a Rumplemintz shot and got some good ideas for gift bags (ooh, those bath bombs!!)

If you have a problem downloading from this page, PLEASE go here: https://jlreisphotography.com/index.php/oshkosh/

As I said, I went to network, but was reminded that women actually NEED photos if they run their own business. People know the brand they’re looking for, like Wildtree or Scentsy, but they also like to know WHO they’re doing business with. A good headshot can be just the thing to get a new customer to order from you.

Harley Women – The Photo That Started It ALL

Harley Boudoir/Glamour sessions are easy to set up. Want to set up your own session? Just email me or Facebook PM and we’ll get the ball rolling

Every one of the ladies in this post hold a place near and dear to my heart. The very first (and a couple of the others) are my very best friend and one of the most beautiful women I know. Whenever her photos grace my blog or FB feed, they blow up with comments. The photo up top is the photo that started it all. MsP needed a photo for a calendar. We had a half an hour. I took one shot and this was the photo that went in the calendar. This photo led to the opportunity to work with a local business and shoot their calendar for the next four years. One of the ladies is a very talented make-up artist, another is my tattoo girl and one of them is a community minded business owner.

And I love every one of them.

So … do you (or your SO) have a bike that you want to include in your session? It’s pretty easy to do. Just ride it over and we’ll roll!

Sensual Boudoir – Not Sexual Photography

Sensual Boudoir Photography

Sensual Boudoir Photography

Sensual boudoir sessions are easy to set up. Want to set up your own session? Just email me or Facebook PM and we’ll get the ball rolling

Sensual boudoir photography is NOT about sex. It’s sexy and provocative, but it isn’t pornography. It’s about the vision a woman has of herself, NOT what a man wants to see.

MsS, like most of my clients, is a mother, a daughter, a lover, a student, an employee. Which is why she’s one of my favorite studio reps, she is you. She is WOMAN. Her first session was the first time she’d ever shot boudoir/glamour and she NAILED it. That session is not only one of my personal favorites, it’s a Facebook and blog favorite as well.

Many of my clients have never had a professional boudoir session done and they save the sensual side of themselves for their partners. I will go to any length to protect their privacy and so I choose reps who represent not only my studio, but women as a whole. My studio reps are just like you and me.

Sensual boudoir photography isn’t about the type of photos you see in men’s magazines. My clients are nervous, and they can feel vulnerable in front of the camera. It is my job to make sure they feel relaxed, look classy and and that their photos are tasteful. I make their photos about them, about their imagination and about how they want to be represented in their images.

My favorite and some of my best sessions happen when my clients let go and trust my judgement. When they feel comfortable and at ease with me, I can photograph them in their very best light and they will have photos that they’ll treasure forever.

Implied Nude, What the Heck Is that?

Boudoir Glamour Photography in Green Bay, Appleton, Seymour, Shawano, Wisconsin

Boudoir Glamour Photography in Green Bay, Appleton, Seymour, Shawano, Wisconsin | implied nudeIn the world of boudoir photography, “implied nude” means that the resulting photo LOOKS like the model/client was nude, but in reality, due to how they were posed, they were NOT NUDE.

In the photo above, the client was wearing panties, I went into PS and removed them. It also helps that the focus is on her incredibly sexy shoes and she’s out of focus in the background.

I know there are those who will say, “Either you’re nude or you’re NOT”, but really in the world of photography, that is just not true. There are camera angles, poses and props that I use to make my clients look as though they are naked as the day they were born, when in reality, in the studio, they were wearing AT LEAST a pair of panties, if not a bra, tube top or sometimes even more.

So, “implied nude” means the looks like she’s nude but none of the “naughty bits” show. Some clients don’t care and they’ll strip right down to their birthday suit in front of me, the majority want to be covered in some way, no matter the end look they’re going for.

I try to discuss this with my clients, either before the session, or as we’re going along, but mostly, whatever happens happens.

Can I Get ONE More NO Boudoir Excuse?

Glamour|Boudoir Photography in Green Bay, Appleton, Wisconsin

It’s the same old thing, the same old “why I don’t do boudoir” excuses, every time the subject comes up: “Oh, I could never do that. I mean if I did, YOU would do it… but I just can’t.” And then we spend the next 45 minutes with me nodding at every excuse they bring up and trying to convince them that they’re wrong. Dozens of no boudoir excuses. In the end, I know none of them get it. It’s too ingrained in their heads that they just aren’t – ENOUGH– pretty enough, thin enough, – whatever.

And that.is.bullshit.

For those of you that keep giving me the same boudoir excuses, telling me you’re not model material (whatever the hell THAT is) – NO ONE is model material. I’ve shot models and guess what? They look just like you and me before the hair and the make-up. Models are not some glorious, ethereal thing that exists only in an aura of beauty in front of the camera.

For those of you that demurely say you wouldn’t know how to pose or do your hair or makeup … oddly enough, I take classes and read books and shoot glamour and boudoir every week; I know how to pose you. I also happen to know licensed hair and makeup artists. So those boudoir excuses don’t fly. Problem solved.

No More Boudoir Excuses | Green Bay, Appleton, Seymour

Oh, you sweet women who say you’re too fat or too old or too shy or not sexy … BULLSHIT. Such terrible excuses. No matter what, you are who you are right now and you are beautiful; to your husband, to your mother, to your children. Stop telling yourself lies and celebrate your NOW.

I have yet to have a client look at the back of my camera and not gasp. “Is that me?” Yes, it’s you and no, it’s not magic, it’s YOU.

No More Boudoir Excuses | Green Bay, Appleton, Seymour

I know, I know – I LOVE these excuses: I CAN’T be naked, I don’t have lingerie. Well guess what? You don’t have to be naked to be sexy. It is known.

No More Boudoir Excuses | Green Bay, Appleton, Seymour

Right now is the very best time in your life to do this. Right now is the time to leave your mark in this world. I’ve lost three friends and the father of a good friend in the past four weeks. I had the great opportunity to photography three of the four in the past two years. I was assured at one funeral that my photos were some of her favorites of herself … that is one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received.

Another fear I have to dispel with stunning regularity is that your photos will end up on the Internet. NO. Not a chance. No way. Your privacy is my number one priority. I would never use your photo without permission, and I’ve been known to ask several times even after I’ve GOTTEN permission. I print out of state. In 2017 I am implementing in person proof reveals. No one will EVER see your photos but you and I – until YOU show them.

Make 2017 the year that YOU make your mark on the world.

Photographic Karma

Every year I go to the local thrift store and grab two or three quart sized plastic blags. They cost me about $1.25, and my theory is that if I get ONE good ornament out of the bunch I’m ahead of the game. Some of them I’ll use for gift wrapping ornaments and some go back into the donate bag. It’s really a win-win situation. So this year as I was on the prowl for ornaments for the studio Monster Tree, I snatched up two of the $1.25 bags on my way to the checkout.

Last night my friend was watching me open the bags and sort thru keepers, give backs and possibles. She let out a crow and grabbed the second bag; a the very bottom was this:
Modern Glamour Photography in Green Bay, Appleton, Seymour, Shawano, Wisconsin

For those of you who don’t believe in karma or in synchronicity, it may not mean much. To me, it’s another sign that I am going in the right direction.and it makes me brain burn and my heart thump faster.

I’m making some marketing changes in 2017, based on my current client base (basically the photos I can’t share, lol). I don’t think Seymour is actually ready for the idea of having your glamour/beauty photos taken just because you want to, because you’re worth it. The clients I *am* reaching understand this concept clearly. They understand that my work is not pornography, that my work is intended to raise THEIR self esteem.

I hope desperately that this will eventually reach all women, no matter their age, shape or size.
